Founder & Director
Danielle Honeyands
Danielle is an accomplished KS3 and KS4 mathematics tutor with a decade of experience in personalised education. She holds a significant role as a school governor at her local primary school, with specific responsibilities in overseeing both reading and mathematics curricula. Her academic interests include research on maths anxiety, fuelling her commitment to understanding the unique needs of each student to enhance their learning experience effectively.

Alongside her educational career, Danielle manages Birchwood in partnership with her husband, Joe. She is also a devoted mother to her intelligent son, who brings joy and humour into her life. Danielle's personal interests include a passion for algebra, a love for sunny days, and an appreciation for chocolate.

Co-Founder & Director
Joe Honeyands
Joe Honeyands is a former teacher and long time maths tutor. He is married to Danielle and runs Birchwood alongside her.
Joe believes that the most important aspect of tuition is building confidence - being that little constant voice letting students know what they can achieve, even if they don’t believe it yet themselves. Joe loves algebra, photography and Turkish delight.

Mathew Pearman
Tutor
As an experienced tutor with a background in teaching students for over seven years, he specialises in preparing students for their 11+ exams, as well as providing tuition for GCSE and A-Level subjects. His passion lies in the humanities, especially English Literature and Philosophy, though he is equally confident in teaching Maths and the sciences.
Since graduating from university with a degree in Philosophy and Mandarin Chinese, he continues to teach and is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic goals. He looks forward to contributing his skills to the Birchwood team.

Jasmine Chen
Tutor
Jasmine Chen is a mathematics graduate with a strong understanding of the subject and its real-life applications. She believes that math is for everyone and it can be fun! Jasmine's goal as a tutor is to provide students with the extra support they need to succeed, tailoring lessons to meet individual learning styles because she understands that everyone learns differently. She strives to make maths applicable, approachable and enjoyable for all students.

Primary Tutor
Emily Smith
A highly experienced primary school teacher and SATs specialist, she has 12 years of classroom experience. She has helped countless students build confidence and achieve excellent results in their SATs by using proven strategies tailored to their individual needs.

As a dedicated tutor, she focuses on making learning engaging, effective, and stress-free, ensuring that every child reaches their full potential. Whether they need support with exam techniques, key subject areas, or boosting confidence, she provides expert guidance to help them succeed. With her in-depth knowledge of the SATs curriculum and a track record of success, she is committed to helping students feel fully prepared and achieve their best results.

Tutor
Adrian Petyt
Adrian Petyt has over thirty years of teaching experience, primarily in Hong Kong, where he taught English, humanities, science, drama, creative writing, and public speaking. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Southampton. Adrian has experience teaching at various levels and is currently a supply teacher in Cumbria. Due to a recent injury, he is now offering tuition from home, providing a safe and focused learning environment. Adrian is dedicated to helping students succeed and is comfortable teaching a range of subjects. In his free time, he enjoys Taekwon-do, running, and amateur dramatics.
