Danielle: The Maths Maestro with a Heart for Understanding
With 11 years of experience as a KS3 and KS4 maths tutor, Danielle is the co-founder of Birchwood and a true expert in her field. Beyond her extensive experience, Danielle brings a warm and understanding approach to her sessions. Her insights into maths anxiety mean she's particularly skilled at tailoring her tuition to each student's individual needs, making even the trickiest topics feel more manageable. As a school governor with responsibility for reading and maths, she has a deep understanding of the curriculum and how to support students effectively. When she's not empowering students with her love for algebra, you might find Danielle enjoying sunshine and a bit of chocolate. She shares her life and Birchwood with her husband, Joe, and is a proud mum to her funny and smart son.

Joe Honeyands: Building Confidence, One Step at a Time
A former teacher and long-time maths tutor, Joe co-runs Birchwood alongside Danielle. He firmly believes that confidence is the cornerstone of successful learning. Joe acts as that reassuring voice, constantly reminding students of their potential, even when self-doubt creeps in. His passion for algebra is infectious, and he has a knack for making complex concepts clear and accessible. Outside of tuition, Joe enjoys the creative pursuits of photography and indulging in the sweet delight of Turkish delight.

Alex: The Analytical Mind Bridging Theory and Practice
Alex brings a sharp, analytical approach to his tutoring, backed by a Cambridge University Economics degree and an upcoming Master's in Financial Mathematics and Data Science at the University of Bath. With 4 years' experience tutoring maths and physics at GCSE and A-level, Alex excels at breaking down complex problems into smaller, more approachable steps. He's dedicated to helping students grasp the fundamental principles and build a solid understanding. When he's not tackling challenging equations, Alex enjoys staying active at the gym and playing football.

Emily: The Primary Powerhouse and SATs Specialist
Emily is a highly experienced primary school teacher with 12 years in the classroom and a proven track record as a SATs specialist. She has a deep understanding of the primary curriculum and employs proven strategies tailored to individual needs to help students build confidence and achieve excellent results. Emily focuses on making learning engaging, effective, and stress-free, ensuring every child can reach their full potential. Whether it's exam techniques, key subject areas, or simply boosting confidence, Emily provides expert guidance to help young learners succeed.

Jasmine Chen: Making Maths Approachable and Enjoyable
As a final year mathematics undergraduate, Jasmine possesses a strong grasp of the subject and a passion for showcasing its real-life applications. She firmly believes that maths is for everyone and is determined to make it a fun and engaging experience. Jasmine's tutoring goal is to provide the extra support students need, tailoring her lessons to individual learning styles. Understanding that everyone learns differently, she strives to make maths applicable, approachable, and enjoyable for all her students.

Mathew: The Humanities and Maths Enthusiast with a Wealth of Experience
Mathew joined the Birchwood team with nearly five years of teaching experience. Having attended Westcliff High School for Boys, he initially focused on helping students navigate the 11+ exams, drawing on his own successful experiences. This evolved into tutoring for GCSEs and A-Levels across a range of subjects. While his favourite subjects to teach are the humanities (English Literature and Philosophy), he is equally comfortable and skilled in Maths and the sciences. Currently a second-year university student studying Philosophy and Mandarin Chinese, Mathew is enthusiastic about continuing to tutor. In his free time, he's the president of his university karate club and enjoys cooking, reading, and writing poetry.

Tiffany: Sparking Curiosity and Confidence in Science
Tiffany is a passionate biology and chemistry tutor with over two years of experience. She is dedicated to helping students build confidence in science by making complex topics approachable and exciting. Tiffany believes that understanding science goes beyond memorisation; it's about igniting curiosity and fostering self-belief. For her, the most rewarding aspect of tutoring is witnessing students realise their own potential. Outside of the science lab (or virtual classroom!), Tiffany enjoys pop music, badminton, and sharing fluffy pancakes with friends.
